Preview Anthropic Doubles Claude Code Limits and Expands Claude Opus API Capacity After SpaceX Deal

Anthropic has significantly increased the capacity for its Claude models, particularly Claude Code and Claude Opus, following a partnership with SpaceX. This enhancement provides users with greater flexibility and reduced usage limitations without any price increase.

The core benefit for daily Claude users is the removal of previous constraints. This means less interruption during peak hours and more room for extensive work with large models, addressing a common frustration for heavy users.

Anthropic Boosts Claude Limits Through SpaceX Agreement

Previously, Claude Code, while powerful, could be restrictive for intensive use. Anthropic’s recent agreement with Musk has led to three key changes implemented on May 6, 2026:

  • Claude Code Usage Limits Doubled: For Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise plans, usage limits for Claude Code within 5-hour windows have been doubled per “seat.” This offers developers and coders more breathing room for tasks like coding, code review, refactoring, and debugging during extended sessions.
  • Peak Hour Limits Removed for Claude Code: Anthropic has eliminated the reduction of limits during peak hours for Claude Code on Pro and Max accounts. This ensures more consistent performance and availability, regardless of service demand.

Enhanced Stability, Better Peak Performance, and Increased API Capacity

These changes aim to make Claude Code a more stable and reliable work tool, unaffected by usage timing. Additionally, Anthropic has substantially increased the API limits for Claude Opus, the most advanced model in the Claude family (version 4.7). This upgrade is crucial for developers and businesses handling demanding workloads, heavy automation, AI agents, internal workflows, and applications requiring more calls or processing power.

The technical foundation for these improvements is Anthropic’s expanded compute capacity, secured through the agreement with SpaceX. This includes access to over 300 MW of new capacity and more than 220,000 NVIDIA GPUs. While this infrastructure underpins the enhancements, the direct impact on users is the most significant takeaway.

The AI race is increasingly focused not just on model superiority but also on the underlying infrastructure to support frictionless usage. Claude Code, in particular, benefits greatly from these upgrades, aligning better with the demanding, long-session nature of modern software development.
