ASUS has unveiled the new ROG Strix XG129C monitor. What sets this model apart, despite being part of the ROG family, is that it’s not a conventional gaming monitor. Instead, it’s a 12.3-inch secondary touchscreen monitor designed to be placed below your main display to enhance your productivity. It can serve as an auxiliary panel for controls, system metrics, widgets, or productivity tools. It’s not a typical gaming monitor but rather a “command center” for users with extensive peripherals, streamers, content creators, and anyone who wants to keep essential information visible without cluttering their primary screen.

ASUS describes it as an ultra-wide 24:9 IPS display with a resolution of 1,920 x 720 pixels. This panel supports 10-point multitouch and boasts a 75 Hz refresh rate. In terms of color coverage, it offers 125% sRGB and 90% DCI-P3. Additionally, the monitor comes with a one-year subscription to AIDA64 Extreme with ROG SensorPanel themes, allowing for real-time hardware monitoring, stress testing, and benchmarking.

The ASUS ROG Strix XG129C enters a growing market for compact secondary monitors

To illustrate, a recently announced competitor from a major brand was the Corsair XENEON EDGE. While Corsair’s model offers superior specifications, it comes at a similar price point. Corsair opted for a 14.5-inch IPS panel with a resolution of 2,560 x 720 pixels (32:9) and a 60 Hz refresh rate, also featuring 5-point touch. The ASUS ROG Strix XG129C features a smaller, narrower, and proportionally taller panel with a 24:9 aspect ratio. This format is advantageous for displaying 16:9 content, chat windows, or monitoring panels with less black bar space and more usable vertical screen real estate compared to a 32:9 strip.

Technically, the ASUS ROG Strix XG129C is equipped with an IPS LED panel with a glossy surface, 176º viewing angles, 300 nits typical brightness, a 1,200:1 contrast ratio, 16.7 million colors, and Flicker-Free technology. Its typical power consumption is under 4.2 W. It weighs 0.56 kg with its stand (0.51 kg without) and includes an integrated adjustable stand, a 1/4′ tripod screw mount, an HDMI cable, a power adapter, and a USB-C cable.

In terms of connectivity, ASUS highlights the presence of two USB-C ports and HDMI 1.2. One USB-C port supports video via DisplayPort Alt Mode and power, while the other offers up to 20W Power Delivery. The official product page also states that if the host device has USB-C with DP Alt Mode and at least 10W output, the monitor can operate with a single cable for video, power, and touch data. The inclusion of HDMI 1.2, though notable given it’s 2026, is practical for its 1,920 x 720 resolution at 75 Hz, suggesting it was a cost-optimization decision. The monitor is priced at 239.90 euros (approximately $199), which is only about 20 euros less than Corsair’s larger and higher-resolution model.
