Preview AOC AGON PRO AGP257FT: The Second Monitor with a Native 1,000 Hz Full HD Panel

AGON, AOC’s gaming division, and Chinese panel manufacturer BOE have unveiled the AGON PRO AGP257FT in China. This monitor proudly takes its place as the second display to offer Full HD resolution at a native refresh rate of 1,000 Hz. This announcement closely follows LG’s recent reveal of the UltraGear 25G590B, the first Full HD 1,000 Hz monitor. This move clearly signals BOE’s intention to position Chinese industry at the forefront of LCD panel technology.

Similar to LG’s offering, the key takeaway here is the emphasis on native specifications. This means the Full HD panel (1,920 x 1,080 pixels) does not downscale its resolution to HD (1,280 x 720 pixels) to achieve 1,000 Hz, a practice common until now. Previously, achieving such high refresh rates often involved resolution reduction, interpolation, and even panel overclocking. The AGON PRO AGP257FT, however, utilizes a panel that operates at a full 1,920 x 1,080 pixels with 1,000 updates per second directly from the panel’s hardware, supported by ADS Pro technology and a TFT transistor matrix that controls the pixels.

What We Know About the AOC AGON PRO AGP257FT

In practical terms, 1,000 Hz equates to an update every 1 millisecond. Compared to a 500 Hz monitor, which updates every 2 ms, or a 240 Hz monitor, which updates every 4.17 ms, this jump aims to further reduce visual latency and enhance motion clarity in fast-paced scenes. Nevertheless, the actual benefit will depend on the PC’s ability to drive competitive games at frame rates approaching 1,000 FPS. This is only achievable in highly optimized titles, such as competitive shooters, with reduced graphics settings. For instance, a game like Counter-Strike 2 would be a suitable candidate.

The AGON PRO AGP257FT boasts a response time of 0.2 milliseconds (0.2 ms GTG). This is complemented by BLMB (Black Frame Insertion) technology to reduce motion blur. The monitor also offers 99% sRGB color gamut coverage, VESA DisplayHDR 400 certification, and “eye protection” features including circular polarization, Low Blue Light, and Flicker-Free technology. BOE emphasizes that this panel type aims to address a common issue in ultra-high refresh rate monitors.

For context, high refresh rate monitors have historically relied on TN panels, which often compromise on color, viewing angles, or resolution to achieve impressive speed figures. With this new panel, the company aims to offer a solution that combines high speed, true Full HD resolution, acceptable color reproduction, and wide 178-degree viewing angles. The monitor includes an ergonomic stand with height and rotation adjustments, a DisplayPort 2.1 connection, RGB lighting, and various gaming assistance features such as a dynamic crosshair, “sniper” scope zoom, shadow enhancement, and dark scene control. Like LG, AOC has not yet announced the release date or pricing for this monitor.
