Packaging and Accessories

We begin the GIGABYTE MO27U2 review with its packaging: a large, colorful, and quite robust cardboard box. Inside, foam surrounds protect the monitor to ensure it arrives in perfect condition, while also organizing all accessories.

In addition to the user manual and a calibration report, the GIGABYTE MO27U2 comes with an extensive set of cables. For power, we have the option of European and American connectors. For video transmission, there’s an HDMI cable and a DisplayPort cable. Finally, to enable the integrated USB hub, we need to connect a USB-A to USB-B cable to the PC.

GIGABYTE MO27U2

We continue the GIGABYTE MO27U2 review with the monitor unpacked and placed on our desk. Before us is a truly elegant monitor for a gaming model, fitting seamlessly into any office environment. This model measures 610.3 x 499.5 x 191.0 mm with the stand installed, reducing to 610.3 x 356.4 x 65.0 mm without it. Its weight is 7.11 kg with the stand, and 5.45 kg without.

27-inch 4K 240Hz Tandem QD-OLED Panel

The GIGABYTE MO27U2 features a 27-inch OLED panel with a UHD resolution of 3840 x 2160 pixels in a 16:9 aspect ratio. Specifically, it’s a Tandem QD-OLED panel, equipped with OLED Care technology to prevent burn-in and OLED VRR Anti-Flicker technology to eliminate the flicker found in earlier generations. The gaming focus is evident with a 240 Hz refresh rate and a 0.03 ms (GtG) response time. It’s fully compatible with AMD FreeSync Premium Pro and NVIDIA G-Sync Compatible technologies, allowing you to take full advantage of every frame rendered by your graphics card. It also boasts VESA ClearMR 13000 certification, guaranteeing fluid and sharp motion.

Beyond its impressive gaming capabilities, this panel offers a brightness of 250 nits, with HDR peaks reaching 1,000 nits. Combined with a typical contrast ratio of 1,500,000:1, it earns the VESA DisplayHDR 400 True Black certification. It also features a 10-bit color depth, capable of displaying 1.07 billion colors, and promises 99% DCI-P3 color gamut coverage. With a Delta E value of less than 2, it’s also perfectly suited for image editing tasks, offering professional-level color accuracy.

As with any OLED panel, its thinness is striking from the side. However, the internal circuitry adds noticeable thickness, though not excessively if you plan to wall-mount it.

Otherwise, you’ll enjoy an elegant rear design, with only the reflective GAMING lettering standing out slightly.

Fully Adjustable Stand for Great Ergonomics

An aspect not to overlook in the GIGABYTE MO27U2 review is its stand. This metallic stand offers extensive adjustability for optimal ergonomics. You can adjust the height by 130 mm, swivel the screen 15º left or right, or rotate it 90º for a vertical orientation, and tilt it between -5º and 21º to perfectly align with your gaze.

If you prefer not to use the stand, you can always utilize a VESA 100 mount for wall mounting or an alternative arm.

A view from the base of the monitor reveals a joystick for easy navigation of the OSD menus, along with two additional buttons for power and quick access.

GIGABYTE MO27U2 Connectivity

Another strong point of the GIGABYTE MO27U2 is its comprehensive and varied connectivity. For image sources, it offers two HDMI 2.1 ports and one DisplayPort 1.4 port, as well as a USB-C port compatible with DisplayPort and 15W PD 3.0 charging. Adjacent to these is a 3.5mm jack for headphones, although it’s worth noting that the monitor includes integrated 2 x 5W stereo speakers.

Next to the power connector, you’ll find a USB 3.2 hub with two USB ports supporting KVM functionality. It also includes a Kensington lock connector, essential in environments where theft might be a concern.

GIGABYTE MO27U2 Tests

It’s time in the GIGABYTE MO27U2 review to test firsthand how this monitor performs. We’ve connected it to our test system with an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5090 Founders Edition. While having such a graphics card is ideal for maximizing this monitor’s potential, technologies like DLSS or FSR can significantly help. In any case, you’ll enjoy exceptional clarity thanks to its Ultra HD resolution, with text displayed in perfect detail due to the new Tandem QD-OLED panel technology.

Color Analysis

We used our Spyder 5 Elite calibrator to analyze the GIGABYTE MO27U2’s color reproduction. As expected, its Tandem QD-OLED panel offers exceptional color representation, on par with monitors for design professionals.

It covers 93% of the AdobeRGB gamut and 99% of the DCI-P3 gamut, truly high values that place it in the top tier of our ranking.

Brightness Analysis

Using our calibrator again, we measured the GIGABYTE MO27U2’s brightness at 100% to be 257 nits. It is therefore one of the few models that strictly adhere to its specifications, promising 250 nits and capable of reaching peaks of 1,000 nits in HDR content. While this may seem a bit low, in practice, more brightness isn’t necessary and exceeding it can even strain your eyes. Furthermore, it offers perfect brightness uniformity thanks to its OLED panel, eliminating the common defects of conventional LEDs.

Gaming Performance

Finally, we focus the GIGABYTE MO27U2 review on analyzing its gaming performance. Given that this panel offers a 240 Hz refresh rate and a 0.03 ms (GtG) response time, we can already anticipate that it won’t disappoint.

However, the best way to measure is to use our NVIDIA LDAT tool to measure end-to-end latency, i.e., from the moment you click the mouse until the action is reflected on the screen. As we’ve observed, this monitor offers an average latency of 13.7 ms, even surpassing 540 Hz monitors. Furthermore, this latency is very stable, with minimums of 10.9 ms and maximums of 17 ms.

GIGABYTE Control Center Software

An aspect we shouldn’t forget in the GIGABYTE MO27U2 review is discussing the GIGABYTE Control Center application. When you connect the monitor to your PC via the USB-B port, you gain access to extra features through this Windows application.

Among these, we must highlight the ability to configure all color parameters directly, making it a much more convenient method than the classic OSD menu. Additionally, you have the Tactical Switch 2.0 functions, which essentially provide a crosshair in the center of the screen, shadow enhancement, or aiming stabilization.

Conclusion

After completing the GIGABYTE MO27U2 review, we are left with the excellent satisfaction that a truly complete product provides. Having a Tandem QD-OLED panel is synonymous with great performance, which we have experienced firsthand. Combining Ultra HD resolution with a 27-inch diagonal means clarity, while excellent color reproduction delivers a sensational image.

Focusing on the gaming features offered by the GIGABYTE MO27U2, they are equally excellent. With a 240 Hz refresh rate and minimal latency, you’ll enjoy games at their fullest potential. While a high-end graphics card is needed for smooth 4K visuals, DLSS or FSR technology can always assist, and FreeSync Premium and G-Sync technologies will allow you to utilize every frame rendered.

Availability and Price

But the definitive aspect that makes this monitor one of the most interesting high-end models on the market is its price. The GIGABYTE MO27U2 is available for sale for 649 euros, a sensational price for the performance it offers, making it the most affordable 4K OLED gaming monitor on the market.
