Contrary to expectations, AMD is preparing for the global release of the RX 9070 GRE, with initial signs emerging outside of China. The graphics card has been observed in international Sapphire packaging and associated with custom PC configurations, indicating AMD’s intention to bring this Radeon out of the Asian market and position it as a mid-to-high-end option for a wider audience, effectively as a global RX 9070 GRE.

After months of silence, the RX 9070 GRE had been largely confined to China. However, the appearance of a Sapphire PULSE RX 9070 GRE in “global” packaging significantly alters the context for this persistent GPU. What exactly does AMD have planned?

The RX 9070 GRE is Back, as AMD Plans a Global Rollout

Unfortunately, this is not a new version with 16GB of VRAM, nor is it the more ambitious variant that was leaked months ago. Instead, it appears to be the 12GB model already reviewed in China.

The final specifications observed in leaks and revealed yesterday show that the RX 9070 GRE utilizes a Navi 48 GPU with 3,072 Shaders, 12GB of GDDR6 memory, a 192-bit bus, 18 Gbps memory speed, and an approximate bandwidth of 432 GB/s. It features a Game Clock of 2,220 MHz, a Boost Clock of up to 2,790 MHz, and a Board Power of 220W. Essentially, it retains the core architecture of RDNA 4 but with a noticeable reduction compared to the standard RX 9070.

Information published by VideoCardz also suggests early listings appearing in US stores, albeit with significant caveats. Newegg lists Sapphire PULSE and PURE RX 9070 GRE models, but they seem to be from marketplace sellers located in China, rather than official US distribution. This signifies an international presence, but not yet through the standard channels one would expect for a global launch.

Pre-built PC Manufacturers are Releasing Systems Featuring This Graphics Card

Another clue comes from Walmart, where a PC from MOGPC is listed with a Radeon RX 9070 GRE 12GB among its specifications. VideoCardz notes that the listing contains errors in other parts of the product description, so it’s prudent to treat it as early retail database work rather than a system ready for immediate shipment. Nevertheless, this detail aligns with the idea that custom PC builders are already preparing configurations with this graphics card.

Regardless, in terms of performance, previous references from Chinese reviews placed the RX 9070 GRE close to the RTX 4070 in 2K gaming, achieving around 95.5% of its performance, but also falling short of the standard RX 7900 GRE by approximately 18%. Therefore, we have a good idea of what to expect from this global version.

Compared to the RTX 4060 Ti 16GB, the advantage was around 28%, while in Ray Tracing, it also outperformed the RX 7900 GRE by about 20%. The key factor now will be the pricing of this model for the rest of the world. If AMD prices it effectively, the RX 9070 GRE could emerge as a well-positioned mid-to-high-end RDNA 4 Radeon, suitable for custom PCs and international retailers.

If it arrives too close in price to the RX 7900 GRE, its 12GB of VRAM, 192-bit bus, and lower bandwidth could become significant drawbacks, as the average user considers 12GB of VRAM as a minimum standard.
